Who We Serve

Picture

Expectant Parents

Whether you are expecting your first or your last child, there are always questions that need to be answered! We can help you understand how to keep engaged in your everyday activities before and after birth. We can also provide tools to help you prepare physically and mentally for childbirth and parenthood.

New Parents

All new parents - whether they gave birth or not - need to spend quality time getting to know their baby and creating that lifetime bond of love. Our goal is to show you new ways to play with your baby, establish and maintain family routines, and select the products that will best support your baby's health and development.

What We Do

Community Partnerships

We offer three workshop series. The goal of these workshops is to offer community partners an avenue to meet the needs and empower the clients they are serving. Each workshop has resource materials for participants. We also have a referral network for care providers should a client additional support.

The Development series provides families with the tools to be competent and confident as caregivers so they can promote development, play skills, and interaction skills.

The Play and Playthings series provides families with the tools to design their spaces that will allow for safety, creativity, and practicality.

The Maternal Health series teaches women how to optimize their own minds and bodies and develop a lifestyle that accommodate physiological and psychological pre- and post-natal changes.

Resources and Support

During the course of transitioning to parenthood, we can encounter a "bump in the road." New parents might have worries and want support in managing these concerns. Through our professional lens, we can observe the problem and do targeted screenings, education, identify if there is a need for further services, and make any necessary referrals.

Areas of support and education we could provide include:
  • Fitting your daily activities to your environment (e.g., ergonomics, body mechanics, energy conservation)
  • Playing with and supporting your baby's development
  • Supporting your physical health (e.g., exercise readiness, sleep, pelvic and core health)
  • Supporting your mental health (e.g., perinatal mood changes, sleep, stress, time management)
Areas of referral could include:
  • Breastfeeding Support
  • Infant and child developmental concerns
  • Postnatal exercise specialists
  • Pelvic floor dysfunction
  • Mental health diagnosis, treatment, and management

Professional Development

In the field of occupational therapy, women's health is an emerging area of practice. We recognize that our profession has a lot to offer, particularly in the area of perinatal health. The resources available on this website will serve as a repository of information for practitioners who are new to the field, or are looking for specific information about perinatal occupational therapy services. As the body of knowledge in this area grows, so will the resources available to professionals. In the meantime, we offer this website to allow future clinicians the opportunity to support each other. We welcome collaborations to develop evidence-based practices to show the efficacy of occupational therapy services.
